Tower Hill Farm

Tower Hill Farm is a rare 20-acre estate in Middletown, New Jersey, where historic architecture and nature come together. Designed in 1932, the property features Gothic arches, ivy-covered stone courtyards, hand-carved doors, and a striking clock tower that gives it the feel of a French chateau. The estate was designed by architect Alfred Hopkins with landscaping by Martha Brookes Hutcheson, one of America’s first female landscape architects. Tower Hill Farm was built for Herbert N. Straus, a member of the family behind Macy’s. He was the son of Isidor and Ida Straus, who famously died aboard the Titanic in 1912. Herbert and his wife, Therese, developed the estate with the intention of creating a French Norman–style country retreat.
